Meet Tia, Your New Tonal Intelligent Assistant

Whether you just finished a program and are looking for your next challenge or want to know how your recent training is progressing, there’s now a smarter way to get guidance on Tonal. Meet Tia, your Tonal Intelligent Assistant, a new Beta feature in the Tonal mobile app. Tia is a conversational experience that unlocks personalized recommendations and insights informed by Tonal’s training expertise and unique understanding of you so you can train with confidence.

“We built Tia to make it easier than ever to tap into the data behind your Tonal experience through a real-time conversation, just like talking to a coach who’s been with you every step of the way.” says Brooke Sanderson, Staff Product Manager at Tonal. 

Tia is currently in Beta and will be gradually rolling out to all Tonal members. When it becomes available to you, you’ll see the animated Tia icon in the bottom right corner of your Tonal mobile app. 

Your feedback is essential to helping Tia learn and improve in the future, so give it a try and let us know what you think. “Our hope is that Tia becomes a trusted partner throughout your training journey, helping you unlock more personalized recommendations and deeper insights while taking the time, effort, and guesswork out of knowing you’re on the right track,” says Sanderson.

Find Your Next Workout or Program

Go beyond searching and filtering for workouts or programs and get personalized recommendations from Tia along with context on why these picks are right for you. With access to the entire Tonal library, Tia can help you pick your next workout or program based on your recent training history, goals, preferences, and any details you provide , so you can get right to lifting. 

"Unlike a standard AI chatbot, Tia is built on top of your training data, which only Tonal knows. That means when you share what you’re looking for, or what you want Tia to generate for you, it can make a more intelligent recommendation based on your workout history, goals, and muscle readiness to deliver workouts and programs that are truly personalized,” says Steven Hirsch, Senior Manager of Sensors and Intelligence at Tonal. “Tia also has deep knowledge of Tonal’s library of exercises, workouts, and programs, so it understands how each one is structured, what it targets, and whether it’s the right fit for where you are in your training. The result is recommendations that connect you to the right workout at the right time.” 

For example, you can ask Tia:

  • I just finished 8 Weeks to Lean, what program should I do next to keep shifting body composition?
  • Can you recommend a 20-minute workout that combines strength and cardio?
  • What’s a good program to pair with training for my first marathon?

Since you’re having a conversation with Tia, you can also ask for a modified list of options based on new requests. For example, if Tia suggests a program with five weekly workouts but you only have three days to train, you can add that information and get more refined recommendations. 

Workout Recommendations on Tia

Create Custom Workouts by Tia, Personalized for You

Tell Tia what type of workout you’re looking for in your own words and Tia will generate a session just for you, that you can then save, schedule, and follow along on Tonal. It’s a great option if you’re short on time, are looking to work a specific muscle group, or don’t want to build a workout from scratch. 

Workouts by Tia can be especially useful when unexpected roadblocks pop up in your training. If you were planning on an hour-long lifting session but got stuck late at work, Tia can create a workout that hits similar muscle groups but is only 20-minutes long. Similarly, if your legs are sore from a hard run or bike ride, Tia can offer workout options that go easy on the lower body. 

You can ask Tia to create:

  • An upper-body workout using the barbell 
  • A 15-minute core workout that includes mobility 
  • A full-body workout with supersets for efficiency

Currently, Tia can only create workouts that can be completed on Tonal. For off-Tonal workouts or more detailed requests, Tia may provide text-based workouts. If you want to make changes, such as movement replacements or adding additional movements, you can save a Workout by Tia and adjust as you would a Custom Workout.

Get Personalized Training Insights

Tia can provide insights and identify trends to help you train more efficiently by synthesizing and interpreting data from your recent workouts. “The real value isn’t just in the data itself, but in turning it into personalized action that adapts with you,” says Jacob Rauch PhD, Senior Manager of Performance and Applied Training Science at Tonal. 

Dive deeper into your stats and discuss your progress, like you would with a coach, to identify areas for improvement and then get a clear plan with workout recommendations and training advice.   

“Tia uses your training history to recommend what’s right for you right now, progressing your training when you’re consistent and adjusting guidance  as your routine changes. Wherever you are in your journey, Tia meets you there and helps you move forward,” says Rauch. 

For example, Tia can let you know if you’ve been crushing upper-body workouts but slacking on leg day. Use these insights to break through plateaus and feel confident you’re heading in the right direction to reach your goals.   

Try asking Tia:

  • Can you summarize my past few weeks of training?
  • What aspects of my training should I focus on?
  • What areas have I been improving in?

Tia is currently in Beta and still improving. Your feedback can help it learn faster and enhance the experience. Once Tia becomes available on your Tonal mobile app, give it a try and share your input using the feedback buttons or directly in the chat by including “feedback” in your message to Tia.
